The Dominican Republic – About

The history of the Dominican Republic is inextricably linked to the history of the New World. In 1492, Christopher Columbus landed on the shores of the island and called it La Isla Hispaniola.

Spaniards quickly established a city called Santo Domingo as the capital of the first Spanish colony in the New World, making it the oldest European city established in the Western Hemisphere. Santo Domingo remains the capital of the Dominican Republic to this day.

The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people. It ranks among the most diverse Caribbean countries in geography, nature, and people.

The country is famous for its white-sand beaches and resorts that take advantage of the warm climate and the clear blue waters of the Caribbean.

Dominicans call their home the “mother of all lands.” There are 6,000 species of flora and 7,000 species of fauna. Cacti flowers, endemic hawks, and humpback whales add to the daily visual delights. The pristine shores face the Caribbean Sea in the south and the Atlantic Ocean in the north

Getting To The Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic isn’t far from major US cities. A direct flight from New York takes about the same amount of time as a drive from NYC to the Hamptons on a Friday.

The Equity Platinum Fund villa is located in the gated Cap Cana resort, which is on the most eastern part of the Island. Cap Cana is only a 15-minute drive from the Punta Cana airport which has direct flights from all the major U.S. hubs and your favorite Southwest Airlines cities.

Marina Cap Cana Welcomes You

The cornerstone of the Cap Cana resort is the Marina Cap Cana. When completed, it will be the most modern marina in the Caribbean. Circling the El Gran Canal are luxury stores, fine dining, and an incredible ocean view.

Discover The Dominican Cuisine

Hungry? Your dining options will seem endless. You can’t miss hot spots such as Api Beach, La Palapa at Eden Roc, or Maraca Gourmet!  While in Cap Cana a visit to Juanillo Beach and Little John’s is also a must.

Don’t miss the deep-fried fish served “Boca Chica” style, one of the most traditional meals served in beach communities. Who can resist platters of fried pork rinds, fried cassava balls, or fried pork chunks? Make sure to try the stewed crab canastas, cassava bread, and sweet potatoes!

The delicious local sausage is longaniza. Say yes to the fried chunks of pork belly and plantains stuffed with conch, crab, or a mixture of spicy goat meat. Choices abound! The question is what do you want to eat? Call it a happy problem!

Shopping in Punta Cana

Resorts feature gift shops for those inevitable souvenirs. With a little effort, you’ll be able to find delightful shopping spots. Shop for crafts on the beach and even try your hand and negotiate at the open-air markets. Shopping is a popular and memorable way to spend an afternoon.

Get Ready To Catch Some Fish

The area’s calm, bay-like waters are ideal for snorkeling and fishing. The Mona Channel, one of the best fishing spots in the world, boasts a March to October fishing season.

Will you hook the big one? Sportfishing off Cap Cana targets marlin, barracuda, grouper, wahoo, and mahi-mahi! Windsurfing and scuba diving are also popular activities.

Get In Touch With Nature

There are plenty of opportunities to get out and have a blast. How does a morning of kayaking or birdwatching sound? There is no limit to the fun, the sun, and flora that awaits. You are sure to uncover something amazing. The Dominican Republic is one of the world’s most diverse nations by geography.

The lakes are calm and clear. Rivers go from looking glass smooth to raging rapids. Marvel at plummeting waterfalls and cool, refreshing pools. Some of the most beautiful white and dark sand beaches in the world are here.

The rugged mountains are some of the highest mountain peaks in all the Caribbean. Explore a saltwater lake that’s below sea level. Take photos of cactus-filled desert plains. Enjoy the tranquil palms swaying in the breeze and lush green tropical valleys. There is something for everyone.

Music Is Woven Into Everyday Life And Reflects The Essense Of The Local Culture

Music is everywhere on the island. It fills the days and nights. People say children dance before they walk. Popular styles are Merengue, Bachata, Salsa, Reggaeton, and Merengue de Calle. Where there is music there is dancing. It is contagious. Every step is a beat!

The music makes you want to get up and move. Learn a couple of steps, enjoy the beats. Discovering the unique music of the area is a great thing to take home with you. It’s not unusual to see someone in the street doing a little dance step to the music from a passing car.

You’ll appreciate a unified passion for the island’s music, dance, song and diverse cuisine. The locals love their baseball, family, and hospitality. Combined, all this is the essence of the Dominican spirit.

Discover the culture, cuisine, and traditions of the Dominican Republic. Treasured family time and lifelong memories come with your Platinum Fund investment.
