While other countries were in lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic, Mexico was one of the few countries that kept its border open. As a result, Cancun International Airport (CUN) stayed busy as visitors poured through it en route to top tropical destinations in the areas like Tulum, Akumal, Cancun, and Playa Del Carmen.
Currently, a negative COVID-19 test is not required for entry to Mexico. Not only are visitors traveling to escape the daily routine and shake off the pandemic fatigue, but flights are also more affordable. Some round-trips from the United States are selling for as low as $200. As a result, the Tulum/Akumal area has grown in popularity, and it’s a great time to go there and enjoy what this part of the world has to offer.
Escape to Nature in Akumal
While Tulum is situated within the lush jungle of the Mayan Riviera, it can be a little too remote and underdeveloped for some visitors. Akumal is more developed with resort-style hotels and amenities which make it a better alternative for a luxury vacation. This destination is popular because Akumal Beach offers the ability to swim with turtles and view the amazing sea life either while snorkeling on your own or joining a private tour. Our advice is to buy a private tour out of respect for the local restrictions on visitors that are put in place to protect vulnerable ecosystems.
As you walk around Akumal, you will notice large villas with easy access to dining, shopping, and beaches. Business is booming and it is a great time to travel!
Our South Akumal Beach Villa has been very popular with guests this year and demand is going strong with both American and Mexican visitors.
For guests who are used to resorts, our home in Akumal can provide the same experience as it has five-star accommodations, spas, and a golf course nearby too.
Things to Do Near Our Home in The Mayan Riviera, Mexico
Take private transportation from the Cancun International Airport that our concierge team can arrange for you, or rent a car for the 2-hour drive. Upon arrival, relax at the pool or your own private beach. You will have plenty of space to travel with friends or family as it can sleep up to 10 people in 5 bedrooms.
Located in the Mayan Riviera, known for its eco-adventure offerings and underwater ecosystems, you can visit some of the most popular cenotes in the area. Aktun Chen, an eco-adventure park that consists of a zoo, a Mayan jungle, and a cenote, is a must-visit!
Our investors also recommend visiting El Jardin Del Eden cenote, which translates as the Garden of Eden. We recommend packing your own snorkels when you travel to Akumal to maximize your enjoyment on this trip. Also, pack only biodegradable sunscreen and bug spray to preserve the quality of the cenote water.
After a day of outdoor adventures, grab a drink at the villa by the pool or head out to a local bar for a nice evening out. South Akumal Beach Villa is located in a gated community and has live-in staff, so you can enjoy private accommodations and daily homemade meals cooked in the villa’s kitchen.
Next on the list, we recommend a day trip to Tulum. Pay a visit to one of the top beach clubs like La Zebra where you can get access to yoga classes, tours, and spa treatments. Art and music fans will also love walking around the boho-chic beach town and hitting up trending spots like Casa Malca for art and Gitano for music and craft cocktails — it’s the best way to experience the local jungle vibes!
If you prefer to stay in Akumal for dining, Lol-Ha! offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner with ocean views. We recommend the traditional nachos al pastor or try a fried whole fish — caught fresh daily!
