The small village of Potrero in the Guanacaste province, where the Equity Platinum Fund home is located, has maintained its very quiet and tranquil atmosphere despite being popular with tourists. Being right in the middle of Costa Rica’s Gold Coast, its string of dazzling beaches makes it an invaluable destination for those looking for a vacation in Costa Rica. When staying in Potrero, you can make your vacation as relaxing or as active as you want it to be. Despite its small size, Potrero and the neighboring villages are packed with activities, restaurants, and beaches that invite you to enjoy them during your stay.
Our residence sits right on the Playa Potrero, a calm and welcoming beach that never gets crowded with tourists. Potrero Bay is fantastic for paddleboarding. You can enjoy Its glass-like calm waters at almost any time of the day. Unlike the neighboring Flamingo and Conchal beaches, Potrero does not get big waves, so it’s also perfect for swimming with children.
If you are thinking about visiting our vacation home in Potrero Beach, here are a few tips that may come in handy when planning your visit.
Location
Potrero is an oceanfront village located in the Guanacaste province, 23.3 miles from Liberia International Airport and 151 miles from San Jose International Airport.
We recommend renting a car when you arrive and highly recommend a four-wheel drive. Costa Rican roads are notoriously bumpy, and a few places on the itinerary we recommend require you to take a dirt road or two to arrive at your destination.
Costa Rica also does not have Uber or Lyft and local taxis virtually do not exist.
Your arrival in Costa Rica
Most restaurants in Guanacaste close at 9 pm. Few stay open until 10 pm or later.
Depending on when you arrive and get your rental car, you may miss an opportunity to grab dinner at one of the local spots altogether.
We recommend asking our concierge to pre-stock groceries for you so that when you arrive at the residence after a flight and an hour’s drive, you will have food waiting at the residence.
If you arrive early and want to grab a bite to eat by the airport before heading to Potrero, here are a few restaurants we recommend that are very close to the airport, are located on the way to the residence, and serve good food:
Cafe Europa, as the name suggests, serves European cuisine.
La Choza de Laurel serves typical Costa Rican food.
Outdoor activities in Potrero, Costa Rica
When you arrive in Playa Potrero, you have a plethora of options to choose from as it relates to exploring the stunning local nature. Below are some of our personal favorites.

Hop on Safari, feed zebras and giraffes with carrots at Panderosa, then hike down to the waterfalls and do a horseback ride.

Hike Las Catalinas and go for lunch at Limonada (casual beach dining) or Ponciana (more upscale Italian).

Surfbox
This restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch. Some of our favorites include ricotta pancakes, chia seed pudding, and shakshuka. They also brew amazing coffee.
Hemingway’s
Cocktails at this place are spectacular. Try them with tacos and don’t forget to order guacamole.
Potrero Brewing Company
The best freshly – brewed beer is a few steps away from the house. Directly across there is a Nicaraguan taco place called Gritanga. Grab both and enjoy!
Gracia La Vid
The best pizza!
Gracia Mar Vista
Dine on perfectly-cooked fresh local produce while enjoying the sprawling views.
Sendito Norte
Go there for an upscale vibe and amazing sunset views.
Fresh Food Shopping
The best, freshest fish for your dining table can be found at Pescaderia Brasilito. This fish stand is located right next to Gracia La Vid. Type the name of the restaurant into Google and park in front of the fish stand. There you will find tuna and mahi mahi caught the same day you shop. Outstanding quality for a reasonable price. For fresh fruits and vegetables, visit the nearest Frutas/Verduras stand.
